Key Takeaways
- Selena Courier Service was founded in London in November 2007 by Elena Ermakova, who still leads it. On 1 November 2026 the business began its twentieth year.
- It began with one courier, after a failed delivery showed Elena what happens when nobody owns an important parcel.
- Experience has changed how we work: better questions, clearer ownership, earlier escalation, more consistent briefing and calmer handovers.
- What has not changed is the idea the business was built on: most delivery problems are communication and control problems, not transport problems.
- The twentieth year is for keeping that standard where clients can feel it, not for louder claims.
Where Selena began
In October 2007, Elena Ermakova was working as a PA in London’s fashion industry when a critical delivery failed: it arrived late for a fitting, damaged, and an important order was lost. The suggestion that followed was unexpected. Start your own courier company.
Selena Courier Service opened in November 2007 with one courier and a simple idea: if someone owns the delivery from the first call to the handover, important items arrive the way they should. Elena tells the full story in how Selena Courier Service began.
Nineteen years in business
On 1 November 2026, Selena completed nineteen years in business and began its twentieth year.
London has changed around us in that time, and so has the work. The tools are different, the vehicles are different, and so are many of the clients and the people on our team. Clients now come to us from healthcare, legal and professional services, luxury retail and fashion, PR and events, hospitality and corporate teams.
The question worth asking at a milestone is not how much has changed. It is what experience should change, and what it should leave alone.
What experience changes in delivery operations
Experience is only useful if a client can feel it in the way their work is handled. For us, nineteen years have changed five things.
Better questions
A newer team asks where and when. An experienced team also asks who can receive the item if the named contact is out, what the deadline is for and who can approve a change. Most problems are visible before collection, if someone asks. We wrote about those questions in the delivery brief.
Clearer ownership
Every job has one coordinator who owns it. Nothing is left to whoever happens to be free. When something changes, the client knows who to speak to, and so does the courier.
Earlier escalation
Experience teaches you which small signs become big problems: a courier running late for the first collection, a building that has changed its delivery hours, an address that does not quite match. The earlier a risk is raised, the more options remain.
More consistent briefing
A courier who knows what the item is, who receives it and what matters at the door can make good decisions alone. Consistent briefing is how a standard survives a busy day.
Calmer handover
The last minute of a delivery is the one the recipient remembers. A calm handover to the right person, confirmed back to the client, is where all the preparation shows.
What has not changed
The business was built on the idea that most delivery problems are not transport problems. They are communication and control problems. Nineteen years have not changed that view. They have confirmed it.
Selena is still independently led. Elena founded the business and still leads it, and that continuity is why decisions are made close to the work. It is also why we can be honest about capacity: the business did not grow by taking every job, as we explain in why responsible couriers do not say yes to every job.
Recognition, and what it is for
In 2026, Selena was named Best Boutique Logistics Partner 2026 and received the Time-Critical Delivery Excellence Award 2026 at the SME News Greater London Enterprise Awards. Earlier recognition includes Best Medical & Healthcare Delivery Service Provider 2023 (SME News) and Courier of the Year in 2023 and 2024 from the Prestige Awards.
We are grateful for it. Recognition has value only when it reflects something clients experience: considered preparation, clear communication and accountable delivery. What our two 2026 awards recognise explains that in more detail.
What our twentieth year is for
Not louder claims. A business in its twentieth year does not need to say more about itself. It needs to keep its standard where clients can feel it: in the questions asked before collection, in the call that comes before the client has to chase, and in the handover at the end.
That is the work of the coming year, alongside the clients who rely on us every week and the Selena Courier team who carry that trust every day.
Elena’s Perspective
“When I started Selena, I wanted one thing: that nobody would lose an important order because a parcel had no owner. Nineteen years later, the tools are different and the team is bigger, but that is still the job. Thank you to every client who has trusted us with something that mattered.”
